April 2012 Meeting
Track: Business Solutions Track
Become more Agile during the BI/DW Development Lifecycle!
Do Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse projects seem to go on forever at your organization? Do you feel that seemingly simple data requirements become complex project phases when they need to be met in your existing data warehouse? When your development cycle has completed, do you find requirements were missed due to valid changes or discoveries in your business?
If so, you need a more agile approach to developing BI and DW solutions, which just happens to be the topic of discussion at this month’s Denver Microsoft BI User Group meeting.
Agile, Accelerated, and Accurate
The three “A’s” above are the foundation of producing business intelligence solutions that have your users doing back flips upon deployment of the solution to your production environment. Seems pretty straightforward, but often there are realistic challenges to building this strong foundation, such as:
· Extremely complex data leading to long requirements gathering cycles
· Business and associated requirements changing over time
· Long regression testing cycles across mounds of data in the data warehouse
At this month’s meeting, Aneal Roney, Principal Consultant with Catapult Systems will explore a methodology for meeting these challenges while providing BI Solutions in an agile, accelerated, and accurate fashion. In addition, Mr. Roney will show how existing Microsoft Business Intelligence tools such as PowerPivot for SharePoint and SQL Server 2012 can help empower business users to increase participation in the overall BI and Data Warehouse development life cycle – leading to higher quality solutions, reduced time to market, and an overall more flexible Enterprise BI Architecture.
About Denver Microsoft BI User Group (BIUG):
The group has been established as a forum for Business Intelligence professionals to share ideas and further their knowledge around BI, with a focus on Microsoft BI practices. Similar groups around the nation have seen rapid growth and tremendous popularity, and we want to make this important resource available locally.
The Denver Microsoft BI User Group's objectives are to:
- Build community around Microsoft BI solutions and related Microsoft technologies
- Cross-pollinate information and ideas on BI
- Provide a forum for individuals and companies to share innovative programs and solutions based on and related to BI
The meetings are held once a month on the 4th Thursday of each month at the Denver Microsoft offices. Each month topics alternate tracks with two audience focuses:
· Business Solutions Track – The business solutions track will involve a showcase of customer and industry solutions, new BI technologies, BI process and methodologies and high level demonstrations. This track is mainly geared towards the business analyst and users of business intelligence applications to solve business problems.
· BI Developer/Administrator Track – The BI developer/administrator track will involve technical demonstrations and discussion of business intelligence applications. This track is mainly geared towards IT personnel who are responsible for developing and delivering business intelligence applications and solutions (i.e. code demonstrations).
About the Speaker:
Aneal Roney is a Business Intelligence Architect with Catapult Systems. Aneal has been featured as a contributor on the Microsoft Business Intelligence blog as well as engages in numerous speaking engagements related to building effective business intelligence solutions. Aneal and Catapult Systems have been working with customers under the Technology Adopters Program (TAP) with SQL Server 2012 Business Intelligence since the earliest beta releases.
